THE STORY

About this wine

A dry, traditional Langhe Nebbiolo from vineyards in and around Barolo, 14.0% ABV. Rose and violet ride over fresh and ripe red fruit and raspberry jam, with licorice and spice behind — fresh and balanced, supple but structured tannins, a long finish.

Borgogno, established in 1761, makes this Langhe Nebbiolo from vineyards in and around Barolo, Piedmont. The wine is hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented in large concrete tanks at approximately 22–28°C for about 15 days, gently pressed, and matured in large Slavonian-oak barrels for more than two years.

Worth knowing

No Name began in 2008 as a playful protest. The Barolo tasting commission had rejected a Borgogno wine, so the winery declassified it and released it as No Name — the argument being that the wine, not the name, makes the reputation.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Borgogno No Name Langhe Nebbiolo 2023

Tasting

Color: Medium ruby in the glass, with purple or light garnet highlights.
Nose: Violet and rose lead, over fresh and ripe red fruit and raspberry jam. Underneath: licorice, delicate piney herbs, spice, dried flowers, and a touch of tamarind.
Palate: Dry and velvety, medium- to full-bodied, and it hangs together: fresh, zesty acidity, savory sapidity, and tannins that stay supple while holding their structure. Generous fruit carries through a persistent finish.
