THE STORY

About this wine

A dry, vintage-dated Brut Millesimato of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG — all Glera, second fermentation in autoclave. Luminous straw yellow with fine, persistent bubbles. Green apple, peach, plum, and citrus over floral and herbal notes, then a fresh, agile, sapid, dry palate. 12.0% abv.

PRIOR is Bortolomiol’s pioneering Brut in its traditional DOCG line. Giuliano Bortolomiol created it when Prosecco from Valdobbiadene was generally made only as Extra Dry; the name and Roman numeral on the bottle commemorate that innovation. The 2024 is a Millesimato (vintage) Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

Worth knowing

A Brut Prosecco from Valdobbiadene used to be close to a contradiction — tradition there ran Extra Dry, and a Brut was an unusual style at the time. PRIOR was the first Brut Prosecco Bortolomiol created, and the name and the Roman numeral on the bottle commemorate that innovation.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Bortolomiol 'PRIOR' Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. Brut 2024

Tasting

Color: Luminous straw yellow in the glass.
Nose: Fine and clean, green apple and citrus up front, peach and plum behind them. Wisteria and lily of the valley come next, fresh floral notes with aromatic herbs underneath.
Palate: Fresh and agile, dry the whole way through. Acidity and sapidity sit in good balance, the mousse is fine and persistent, and the finish is moderately persistent.
