THE STORY

About this wine

Rich, plush, fruit-driven 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Caymus — ripe blackberry and cassis lead, black cherry and dark plum behind, cocoa, vanilla, espresso, and baking spice underneath. Soft, polished tannins carry it all into a long, smooth finish.

Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1972 in Rutherford, Napa Valley, by Chuck Wagner and his parents, Lorna and Charlie Wagner. The winery remains family-owned and is known primarily for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Its signature approach emphasizes ripe fruit, dark concentration, and soft, polished tannins that are approachable on release while still supporting aging.

Worth knowing

Extended hang time is the Caymus move — grapes left on the vine longer to build ripeness, color, and softer tannins. It's a big part of the rich, velvety house style.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Tasting

Color: Dark ruby red.
Nose: Ripe and dark, blackberry and cassis first, black cherry and dark plum filling in behind. Cocoa, vanilla, espresso, and baking spice lift the fruit, and deeper down the aromas shade into black licorice, tobacco leaf, violet, and chocolate.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied, plush to the point of velvet, with concentrated dark fruit in a creamy texture. The acidity is integrated rather than separate, and soft, polished tannins carry cedar, cola, and clove into a long, fine-grained finish.
