THE STORY

About this wine

Medium-bodied Barolo DOCG, all Nebbiolo, from Ceretto's estate parcels across Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba — bright red cherry and raspberry over dried herbs and earth, firm tannins, a classically structured wine.

Ceretto is a family estate founded in 1937 in Piedmont’s Langhe. The estate’s winemaking has evolved toward transparent, terroir-focused wines, using ambient yeasts, stainless-steel fermentation, extended maceration, and maturation in tonneaux and large casks. Ceretto’s vineyards are organically certified, with biodynamic practices introduced in the late 2000s.

Worth knowing

This is a multi-site Barolo, and the blend does the balancing — Ceretto combines the more approachable fruit of the western-side communes with the more austere character of the eastern side. The 2021 leans principally on the lower slopes of Brunate, with smaller parcels from other sites filling in.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Ceretto Barolo 2021

Tasting

Color: Bright red in the glass.
Nose: Red cherry and raspberry come first, then orange peel, cinnamon and cedar, with sweet pipe tobacco behind — earth and underbrush underneath.
Palate: Medium-bodied, taut, finely cut. The tannins arrive firm, ripe and chewy, gripping hard before easing toward the finish, while vibrant acidity keeps the red fruit precise.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with slow-braised beef
A must try with mushroom and truffle dishes
A must try with aged firm cheeses
