THE STORY

About this wine

Village Pinot Noir from Chassagne-Montrachet in 2022 — fresh red fruit up front, a supple, silky texture, fine tannins with structure, lively acidity, and a long finish that lands on delicate pepper.

Château de la Maltroye is a family-owned estate in Chassagne-Montrachet, operating since 1941. It has approximately 13 hectares in Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 hectares in Santenay; the estate produces about 40% red wine, made from Pinot Noir. Its historic château has 18th-century glazed tiles and 15th-century cellars.

Worth knowing

Chassagne-Montrachet is famous for white now, but its vineyards were red first. Maltroye is one of the names keeping the appellation's red Pinot Noir going strong — the side of the village this bottle comes from.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 2022

Tasting

Color: Light garnet brightening to ruby, and you can see right through it.
Nose: Fresh cherry and raspberry, crunchy and bright up front. The fruit gives way to forest floor and licorice, with white pepper lifting behind.
Palate: Supple and fresh on entry, all silk through the middle. The tannins are fine but they hold real structure, and lively acidity runs the wine out long, finishing on delicate pepper.
