THE STORY

About this wine

Non-vintage brut Crémant de Loire from Maison Foucher Lebrun — 50% Chenin Blanc, 25% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, traditionally bottle-fermented and about two years on lees. Straw yellow in the glass, white fruit, citrus and quince on the nose, and a creamy, fresh palate running almond and mineral.

Maison Foucher (also identified as Foucher-Lebrun) is a Loire négociant house founded in 1921 by Paulin Lebrun, originally a cooper. The NV Cuvée des Roys de Naples is a Crémant de Loire AOC made by traditional bottle fermentation, with approximately two years of lees aging before release.

Worth knowing

Cuvée des Roys de Naples isn't just a flourish — the Angevins, a dynasty from the Loire, really did rule the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily through the 13th and 14th centuries, and the cuvée takes its name from them.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Domaine Foucher Lebrun Cremant de Loire AOC Cuvee des Roys de Naples

Tasting

Color: Straw yellow, warming to gold.
Nose: White-fleshed fruit and citrus lead, lemon and quince with a snap of zest, then a flinty mineral seam and bread dough underneath.
Palate: Creamy yet fresh, crisp acidity under a frothy, fine mousse. Almond and mineral notes carry yellow apple into a long, bright finish that lands salty, with the soil showing.
