THE STORY

About this wine

Village Gevrey-Chambertin from a 67.93-are parcel in En la Justice — layered Pinot Noir, black cherry and wild raspberry over ripe red and dark berries, violet, baking spice, earth and forest floor, silky tannins, a long mineral-driven finish. It's approachable now, and the balance and structure are there to gain complexity with cellaring.

Domaine Leymarie-Ceci is a small family domaine in Vougeot, housed in buildings dating from 1626. The family’s Burgundy history began with Charles Leymarie’s 1933 acquisition of a Clos de Vougeot parcel; René Leymarie acquired the Vougeot property in 1969, and Jean-Charles has run the domaine since 2004. The domaine farms less than 4 hectares across several Côte de Nuits appellations.

Worth knowing

En la Justice is a named climat inside the Gevrey-Chambertin village appellation, not a Premier Cru. The family's 67.93-are piece of it, bought in 1970, sits in the village, below the Dijon–Beaune road.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Domaine Leymarie-Ceci Gevrey-Chambertin En la Justice 2023

Tasting

Color: Deep ruby that shades into garnet.
Nose: Black cherry and wild raspberry lead, over a base of ripe red and dark berries. Violet lifts through, baking spice warms it, and earth and forest floor settle underneath.
Palate: Layered, with ripe berry fruit riding silky, fine-grained tannins. Mineral freshness cuts through into a long, persistent finish, and there's balance and structure for added complexity with cellaring.
