THE STORY

About this wine

Dry Mosel Riesling Grosses Gewächs from the Rotlay parcel of Zeltinger Sonnenuhr in Zeltingen-Rachtig — apricot and lemon fruit over crushed rock and meadow herbs, silky and citrus-fresh on the palate, vibrant acidity, slate minerality, an intense, long finish.

A Grosses Gewächs (GG) from the Rotlay parcel within Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, a Mosel top site classified as a Grand Cru; Heinrichshof describes the wine as hand-harvested, strictly selected, fermented in one traditional Fuder barrel and aged nine months on the lees.

Worth knowing

The site takes its name from a sundial dated 1620 — the oldest sundial on the Mosel. Rotlay unpacks neatly too: rust-red clearing and slate, with Lay meaning slate.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Heinrichshof Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Rotlay GG Riesling Trocken 2024

Tasting

Color: White in the glass.
Nose: Stone fruit and yellow fruit lead, with lemon and apricot out front. Crushed rock and meadow herbs sit behind, and the mineral character underneath reads clearly as slate.
Palate: Silky and supple, with citrus freshness carrying ripe fruit, all of it held in balance by classic, vibrant acidity. Slate runs underneath, so the wine stays light while gaining depth, and the finish is intense and long.
