THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, savoury South African Syrah — ripe dark fruit and black cherry lifted by dried violet, black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg, with rounded silky tannins carrying everything into a long, powerful finish.

Holden Manz Wine Estate is a 22-hectare estate in the Franschhoek Valley of South Africa, between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook. Its vineyards occupy about 16 hectares and focus on red varieties, including Syrah.

Worth knowing

Only 2,000 bottles. Before release, the wine spent two years in barrel and another four in bottle — it was never in a hurry.

Blend

  • Syrah

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Holden Manz Syrah Reserve 2018

Tasting

Color: Deep purple in the glass, bright at the edge.
Nose: Savoury and floral at once. Dried violet arrives first, then plum, black cherry, and fraises des bois (wild strawberry), with black pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg underneath.
Palate: Bold and ripe from the first sip. Dark fruit carries savoury, spicy notes with a streak of black pepper, while rounded, silky tannins hold everything into a long, powerful finish.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with fire-roasted sirloin steak
A must try with crispy roasted goose with plum reduction
A must try with substantial roasted or grilled dishes
