THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, Merlot-led Franschhoek Valley blend: 38% Merlot, 36% Syrah and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, cold-soaked before fermentation, eighteen months in third-fill French oak, and a soft, silky tannic close.

Holden Manz is a family-owned estate established by Gerard Holden and Migo Manz in 2010. The 2021 Vernissage was made by winemaker Thierry Haberer; the wine was fermented after cold soaking and matured for 18 months in third-fill French oak barrels.

The estate runs 22 hectares at roughly 300 metres above sea level, sitting between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Holden Manz Vernissage 2021

Tasting

Color: Deep ruby in the glass, the rim running clear red.
Nose: Mulberry, blackberry and ripe cherry lead, then prune juice and violet. Cigar box, cloves and graphite sit underneath.
Palate: Smooth and balanced from the first sip. Dark fruit and black cherry layer with fresh raspberry over tobacco, herbaceous notes and pencil shavings, and subtle savoury tones sit just behind the fruit.
