THE STORY

About this wine

Bold, concentrated, full-bodied Syrah — a 100% estate bottling from Seven Hills Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley at 15.0% alcohol, with juicy dark fruit over savory olive and game, tapenade, bitter chocolate, and fine, integrated tannins carrying a persistent earthy finish.

L’Ecole № 41’s 2022 Estate Syrah is made from some of the earliest Syrah plantings in the Walla Walla Valley. The producer describes it as combining Old World earth and spice with bold, expressive New World fruit. L’Ecole № 41 is a third-generation, family-owned Washington winery founded in 1983 and operates estate vineyards including Seven Hills Vineyard.

Worth knowing

The vineyard does the explaining here. Seven Hills Vineyard is one of the Walla Walla Valley's earliest and most renowned sites, L'Ecole No 41 is a partner in it, and this estate Syrah comes from some of the valley's earliest Syrah plantings.

Tasting

Color: Inky violet in the glass.
Nose: Luscious dark fruit meets savory game up front, then earth, olive, and tobacco layer in. Underneath sit white pepper, lavender, and iron, with black olive, smoked blue plum, charred rosemary, and bacon emerging as it opens.
Palate: Rich and concentrated from the first sip — juicy black plum and mulberry spice lead, ripe plum and dense blackberry close behind.
