Les Quatre Piliers Touraine Chapitre I 2024

Format

TASTING PROFILE

Apple Citrus Mineral White Flowers

A table white, so pour it with seared scallops in brown butter. The 2024 is riper and more exotic than earlier bottles, the spine unchanged — dry, tensile, saline.

THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, mineral, gastronomic Touraine Sauvignon Blanc off organic vines more than seventy years old. The 2024 leads with confit citrus, white flowers and ripe orchard fruit over smoked sea salt, and holds medium- to full-bodied, precise and crystalline right into an ethereal finish.

Les Quatre Piliers is the domaine of Valentin Desloges, based in Noyers-sur-Cher in Touraine. Desloges established the estate after experience in Bordeaux, New Zealand, Burgundy and Alsace; the domaine farms organically and focuses on terroir-driven wines. The 2024 Chapitre I is identified as a Touraine/VDF white made from Sauvignon Blanc.

Worth knowing

A low-intervention hand from start to finish. No sulfur at pressing, fifteen days of maceration in stainless steel, then élevage in 225-liter barrels previously used at Cheval Blanc — malolactic ran to completion, and the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered with only 3 g/hL of sulfur.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Les Quatre Piliers Touraine Chapitre I 2024

Tasting

Color: White.
Nose: Confit citrus leads, white flowers and ripe orchard fruit right behind, finger-lime and orange rind threading through. A smoked sea-salt mineral undertone holds the whole thing down, and the 2024 reads more exotic than previous releases.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, dry the whole way, precise and crystalline, pure and seamless on a tensile frame.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with oysters and briny shellfish
A must try with seared scallops or roast chicken with a citrus-butter sauce
A must try with fresh goat cheese with a citrus vinaigrette
