TASTING PROFILE

Citrus Mineral Peach Toasted Oak Vanilla

Smoked salmon, brown bread, a Friday that got better. Drink it young or cellar it a few years and let the reserves hold it up — mirabelle, fine mousse, long finish.

THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, non-vintage Brut Champagne from Louis Roederer — precise, soft and lively, yellow fruit and candied citrus with subtle vanilla and toast, a light creamy palate, and a chalky-saline finish that turns smoky and toasty.

Collection 246 is Louis Roederer's 246th blend and the successor to Brut Premier in the House's Collection range. It is a non-vintage Champagne built around the difficult, low-yield 2021 harvest: 55% 2021 wines, 35% perpetual reserve from 2012–2020, and 10% oak-aged reserve wines from 2012–2017, with 30% malolactic fermentation and a 7 g/L dosage.

Worth knowing

The 246 in the name counts harvests and blends, not vintage years — it's the House's 246th blend. The cuvée is deliberately drawn in equal parts from three origin zones, La Rivière, La Montagne and La Côte, and its oak-aged reserve wine comes from young Cristal-estate vines.

Blend

  • Chardonnay 54%
  • Pinot Noir 35%
  • Meunier 11%

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Louis Roederer Collection 246

Tasting

Color: Champagne-gold and bright, with luminous reflections and a stream of very fine, even bubbles.
Nose: Mirabelle plum and nectarine lead the yellow fruit, with candied lemon, bergamot and grapefruit right behind. Vanilla and toasted oak add warmth, and fine iodised, shellfish-like reductive notes run underneath.
Palate: Light and delicate — peach and white peach, floral and pollen-like, over a soft, creamy mousse. Fresh acidity carries lemon curd and citrus, the texture running fresh and oily-powdery, with chalky dryness and saline tension through the middle.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with oysters and briny shellfish
A must try with delicate poached fish or seafood in a light cream sauce
