THE STORY

About this wine

Fresh, medium-bodied red from Lebanon's Bekaa Valley: Grenache Noir, Cinsault, and Tempranillo from high hillside vines, fermented and matured in vat. Raspberry and cherry up front, white pepper and spice behind, moderate tannins, a clean finish.

Massaya Le Colombier is a Lebanese red blend made at Massaya’s Tanaïl winery from high-elevation hillside vineyards in the Beqaa Valley. The producer’s technical sheet describes hand harvesting, sorting, full destemming, 20–30 days of fermentation in stainless-steel vats, and one year of maturation in vat before bottling. The sheet is not vintage-specific, but its composition and production details are corroborated by 2022 listings. Massaya is a collaboration between the Ghosn family and French partners including the Brunier brothers of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and Dominique Hébrard.

Worth knowing

The name is literal: Le Colombier is the dove cote on Massaya's Tanaïl property, and the doves come back to nest there every year.

Blend

  • Grenache Noir 35%
  • Cinsault 35%
  • Tempranillo 30%

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Massaya Le Colombier 2022

Tasting

Color: Strawberry red in the glass, cherry reflections catching the light.
Nose: Raspberry and cherry lead, summer fruit close behind, white pepper, spice, and flowers running through. Darker berries surface as it opens, then leather and tobacco with a hint of coffee.
Palate: Fresh and medium-bodied, the red fruit out front and generous through the middle. Tannins stay moderate, the texture supple and lightly rounded, and the finish lands clean with a dusty-earth edge beneath the fruit.
