THE STORY

About this wine

Dry Etna rosato from Contrada Volpare in Milo, all Nerello Mascalese grown at around 700 meters on the volcano's eastern flank — wild strawberry and raspberry meet red citrus and Mediterranean herbs, with volcanic minerality behind a salty, citrus-driven finish.

Maugeri is a family winery in Milo on Etna’s eastern slope. The estate spans roughly 7 hectares and 83 terraces between Contrada Praino and Contrada Volpare, at about 700 m elevation, with extensive dry lava-stone walls. The winery describes its approach as organic and centered on native Etna varieties.

Worth knowing

Heroic, bush-trained vines on the small volcanic terraces of Contrada Volpare — that's where this fruit comes from. In the cellar the must ferments half in stainless steel, half in 500-liter French-oak tonneaux, then ages four months on fine lees.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Maugeri Etna Rosato Contrada Volpare 2024

Tasting

Color: Coral pink with a light onion-skin cast, amber or orange reflections in the glass.
Nose: Wild strawberry, raspberry, and redcurrant lead, over pomegranate, red citrus, and a floral note, with Mediterranean scrub behind. Then blood orange, salted watermelon, peach, and underripe strawberry come through.
Palate: Juicy and fresh on a silky texture, bright acidity carrying it. Volcanic minerality and pronounced salinity sit under the small red fruits and citrus, and the finish runs long, savory, and citrus-driven.
