Blackberry Mineral Plum Spice Violet

Pour it with grilled flank steak and chimichurri. A cooler year kept this one fresh instead of rich β€” bright fruit, real freshness, svelte tannin.

THE STORY

About this wine

Malbec-led red blend from the Uco Valley, made from the fruit of four partner bodegas β€” the 2021 is the project's twentieth-anniversary bottling. Deep berry fruit with wild-herb lift, exotic spice and subtle oak ride a medium-bodied, concentrated frame of fresh acidity and polished tannins.

Clos de los Siete is a collaborative Argentine project initiated by Michel Rolland in the Uco Valley at the foot of the Andes. Grapes come from four participating bodegasβ€”Monteviejo, Cuvelier los Andes, DiamAndes, and Bodega Rollandβ€”and are blended under Rolland’s supervision. The 2021 release commemorated the brand’s 20th anniversary.

Worth knowing

The blend is remade every vintage, and that's the point: each year is meant to be its own expression of the project. The 2021 came out as the twentieth-anniversary bottling.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Michel Rolland Clos de los Siete (C7) 2021

Tasting

Color: Deep, glittering ruby that goes right through to deep ruby-purple, with violet reflections.
Nose: Blackberry, blackcurrant and plum lead over a core of red and blue fruit. Wild herbs, violets and cedarwood lift it, then exotic spice, a hint of ash, subtle oak and a touch of dark chocolate follow.
Palate: Medium-bodied but concentrated, dry and juicy. Rich dark fruit sits over lively acidity and fine, svelte tannins, with stony minerality running underneath.
