THE STORY

About this wine

Barrel-aged white Rioja, dry, from Bodegas Ontañón's Colección Versos Sueltos: Viura, Garnacha Blanca, and Maturana Blanca through a stainless ferment with lees and seven months in American oak. Ripe tropical and citrus fruit with white flowers, white pepper, and toast over a fleshy palate, saline and citrus on the finish.

Ontañón Kaori Blanco 2023 is a white Rioja from Bodegas Ontañón’s Colección Versos Sueltos. The vintage is made from Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Maturana Blanca, with each variety vinified separately. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with lees and aged for seven months in American oak, including time with fine lees.

Worth knowing

A name that doubles as a menu. Kaori means aroma, fragrance, or perfume in Japanese, and the wine's scent-first character points it straight at sushi, sashimi, and nigiri.

Blend

  • Viura
  • Garnacha Blanca
  • Maturana Blanca

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Ontanon Kaori 2023

Tasting

Color: Antique gold with golden flashes and honey reflections. It runs clean and bright out to lemon-yellow.
Nose: White flowers lead, with ripe tropical fruit and fresh grapefruit behind them. White pepper and warm spices give the lift, and toast with a touch of vanilla sits underneath.
Palate: Oily and fleshy, voluptuous yet contained. Tropical fruit and vanilla fill a rounded middle, and then vibrant acidity and a saline streak sharpen everything into a long, fresh, citrus-driven finish.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with Sushi, sashimi and nigiri
A must try with Oilier fish and shellfish, grilled or in a light sauce
A must try with Lightly spiced white meats and poultry
