THE STORY

About this wine

Naturally sweet late-harvest white from Hungary's Tokaj, a blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű and Muscat made only from hand-selected bunches carrying at least 50 percent botrytised berries — white peach, pear, lemon curd, orange peel and clementine over tropical fruit on a creamy, silky palate, with lively acidity carrying a rich, persistent finish. 11.5 percent alcohol by volume.

Oremus Tokaji Late Harvest 2023 is made in Tokaj, Hungary, by Oremus, the Vega Sicilia winery in the region. The grapes were hand-selected in several passes, with only bunches containing at least 50% botrytised berries used. After 4–12 hours of maceration and 15–25 days of stainless-steel fermentation, the wine was aged for two months in 220-litre Hungarian oak barrels and six months in bottle.

Worth knowing

The 2023 harvest ran 3 to 31 October, and the wine was bottled over two days, 3 and 4 July 2024, into 37,400 50cl bottles. The standard behind every bottle is the one that defines Tokaji itself: only bunches carrying at least 50 percent noble rot made it in.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Oremus Tokaji Late Harvest 2023

Tasting

Color: White in the glass.
Nose: Fragrant and floral — white peach, pear, lemon curd, orange peel and clementine up front, dried pineapple and mango underneath. Fig leaf, linden and celery tops sit behind all that fruit.
Palate: Medium-bodied, sweet and juicy — the fruit rides a creamy, silky texture, citrus and tropical fruit with lemon curd at the middle. Lively acidity keeps the richness in check.
