THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, crisp and gently spritzy, a white from Monção e Melgaço in Portugal's Vinho Verde DOC — the 2025 blends 40% Arinto, 30% Trajadura and 30% Loureiro at 10.5% alcohol, green apple and citrus carried on saline, stony minerality.

Quinta de Santiago is a fourth-generation family estate owned by the Santiago family since 1899. The boutique-winery project began in 2009 after Mariazinha Santiago, then 86, encouraged the family to stop selling its grapes to regional companies and make its own wines; granddaughter Joana Santiago now leads the project.

Worth knowing

A dare, not a business plan. In 2009 Mariazinha Santiago, eighty-six, challenged three generations of relatives to stop selling the estate's grapes and make their own wine — they took it, and her granddaughter Joana Santiago runs the project today, all of it on 7.5 hectares.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Quinta de Santiago 'Assinatura de Família' Vinho Verde 2025

Tasting

Color: Light, bright white in the glass.
Nose: Lemon and lime lead, then green apple, melon and nectarine, with a subtle floral lift at the close.
Palate: Dry and light-bodied, with a gentle spritz that keeps it moving. Crisp, lively acidity runs through it, the minerality reads saline and stony, and the finish comes clean and racy, closing on green apple.

Pairs Beautifully With
