THE STORY

About this wine

Robert Mondavi's 2021 The Estates Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville — a full-bodied, structured Napa Valley Cabernet, mostly To Kalon fruit. Dry, red, still at 14.5% alcohol, with concentrated dark fruit over polished new French oak, fresh acidity, and fine, firm tannins.

The 2021 vintage was produced from a mild, dry growing season with lower-than-average yields that concentrated the grapes. Fruit was hand-harvested from September 14 to October 21, 2021, spent 23 days on the skins, and was aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak before bottling in August 2023.

Worth knowing

The label says Cabernet Sauvignon, but the bottle is a traditional blend of all five Bordeaux varieties — 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2.5% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, and 1.5% Malbec, predominantly from the historic To Kalon Vineyard in western Oakville.

Blend

  • Cabernet Sauvignon 83%
  • Cabernet Franc 11%
  • Petit Verdot 2.5%
  • Merlot 2%
  • Malbec 1.5%
