Red Cherry Rose Petals Toasted Oak

Roast partridge and a slow Sunday. This one wants air first, so decant it or give it a big glass and a little patience — floral, pure, more than it first shows.

THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, fresh, elegant Bourgogne Rouge from Théo Dancer's Roc Breïa at Bray, in the northern Mâconnais — floral, red-fruited Pinot Noir with restrained oak, fine tannins and a long finish.

Roc Breïa is Théo Dancer’s Mâconnais project, based on a roughly 10.5-hectare vineyard plot in the Bray area. The vineyard had previously been farmed conventionally and is being rehabilitated with organic practices. The 2024 vintage was challenging, with repeated rainfall and aggressive downy mildew, producing very low yields but wines described by Dancer as concentrated, vibrant, fresh and classically Burgundian.

Worth knowing

The 2024 pick began on 10 September. Roughly half whole bunch, then matured in used 500-litre barrels — bottled without filtration, no added yeast, very low sulphur.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Roc Breia Bourgogne Rouge 2024

Tasting

Color: Red in the glass.
Nose: Floral up front, red fruit underneath, a touch of oak behind.
Palate: Fine tannins, fresh concentration, fruit that stays pure and elegant. It keeps showing more of itself with time in the glass, and the finish runs long.
