THE STORY

About this wine

Soft, savory 2022 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso from the steep Monti Garbi slopes above Mezzane di Sotto. Cherry and red fruit lead the nose, fresh acidity and fairly firm tannins shape the palate, and the finish lands spicy and chewy.

Tenuta Sant'Antonio's Monti Garbi is a Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso from the Monti Garbi area above Mezzane di Sotto in Veneto. The Ripasso method combines young Valpolicella with Amarone pomace for a second fermentation; the 2022 wine was matured for 12 months in new and used barriques.

Worth knowing

Ripasso means "repassed." The young Valpolicella goes back over Amarone grape skins for a second fermentation, and that second pass is where the extra body and complexity come from.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Tenuta Sant'Antonio Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Monti Garbi 2022

Tasting

Color: Ruby red in the glass, the rim brightening to garnet.
Nose: Red fruit and cherry up front, with rosehip and violet for lift. Sour cherry, redcurrant and dried black cherry sit underneath, and white pepper and cedar spice run through the whole thing.
Palate: The entry is soft and caressing, yet the wine keeps a taut line. Fresh acidity carries crunchy red fruit, savory depth builds through the mid-palate, and mineral tones run beneath fairly firm, integrated tannins.
