THE STORY

About this wine

A dry, unoaked Sicilian white from the island of Mozia in the Marsala lagoon — 100% Grillo. Luminous straw yellow, with jasmine, almond and iodine over white and yellow fruit, and a fresh, full, savory palate that carries brackish salinity into a long citrus-floral finish.

A Sicilia DOC Grillo made on Mozia (San Pantaleo), a small island in the Marsala lagoon, by Tenuta Whitaker in partnership with Tasca d'Almerita and the Whitaker Foundation. The 2024 vintage was harvested on August 10, 2024 and matured for five months in stainless steel.

Worth knowing

Mozia is a historically significant Phoenician island, and the English planted its first vines in the early nineteenth century. The estate's bush-trained vines are pruned Marsala-style, low and compact — a form that protects them from the lagoon's strong sea breezes and intense sun.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Tenuta Whitaker Grillo Mozia Sicilia 2024

Tasting

Color: The 2024 pours luminous straw yellow, with green glints.
Nose: White and yellow fruit leads — clementine, white peach, white melon, Kaiser pear, apricot — with jasmine, broom and hawthorn next. Beneath the flowers sit almond and pistachio, with aromatic herbs, green tea, iodine and cedar.
Palate: Fresh and flowing, full and savory, with juicy white and yellow fruit up front and brackish mineral salinity underneath. A citrus thread runs the length, and the intensity holds through a long, floral, citrus-led finish that ends on a mentholated edge.
