THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, full-bodied Syrah from River Rock Vineyard in the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater — dark fruit, black olive, smoked meat and pepper, fresh acidity and silky tannins, a long, savory finish.

The Walls is a Walla Walla, Washington producer founded by Mike Martin; Todd Alexander is identified as consulting winemaker. The 2020 Mahana is sourced from River Rock Vineyard in the Walla Walla Rocks AVA and reflects the region’s rocky, savory Syrah character.

Worth knowing

Named for a founder. Mr. Mahana established Freewater, the sister city to Milton, in 1889, and the name carries his wish that more than water flow freely.

Blend

  • Syrah 100%

Color: Red in the glass.
Nose: Blackberry and blueberry lead, then black olive, smoked meat and pepper, with a mineral edge underneath.
Palate: Concentrated and full-bodied — smoked brisket, tar and huckleberry. Velvety, silky tannins and mouth-watering acidity hold it in balance, and the finish goes long and savory.
