THE STORY

About this wine

The house's signature non-vintage is a dry, Pinot Noir-led Brut — brilliant gold with a fine, persistent bead, orchard and citrus fruit over brioche, and a creamy mousse that finishes steely and mineral.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut is the house’s signature non-vintage Champagne. The house was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot; Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin (the “Widow Clicquot”) assumed leadership in 1805. Veuve Clicquot states that the cuvée is assembled from 50–60 crus and may include up to 45% reserve wines, supporting consistency from release to release.

Worth knowing

The riddling table has an author. Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, the widow Clicquot, is credited with developing it in 1816: an inclined surface on which bottles are turned by hand so that sediment settles toward the neck. It remains important to traditional sparkling-wine production, and the house also keeps a large reserve-wine collection, with reserves aged up to thirty years.

Blend

  • Pinot Noir 50%

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Veuve Clicquot Brut

Tasting

Color: Brilliant golden yellow, threaded with a fine, persistent stream of bubbles.
Nose: Pear, apple, and peach arrive first, with mandarin and grapefruit close behind. Brioche, vanilla, and toast wait underneath, joined by a buttery berry-scone note and a hint of almond.
Palate: Pear, peach, and pastry lead the entry, with dried-fruit depth from lees aging underneath. Lemon and razor-sharp green apple run through the middle, and tangy acidity carries a creamy, persistent mousse into a steely, mineral finish.
