THE STORY

About this wine

Dry traditional-method sparkling rosé from Saumur in the Loire Valley — 80% Cabernet Franc with 20% Grolleau behind it, 12% abv, in a 750 ml bottle. Bright salmon-pink, it leads with wild strawberry, cherry, raspberry, and spring flowers, then goes round and velvety with orange and mandarin citrus, finishing clean and lively.

Bouvet Ladubay Saumur Brut Rosé NV is a traditional-method sparkling rosé from the Saumur AOP in France's Loire Valley. The Saumur Brut appellation was established in 1957. Bouvet-Ladubay was founded in 1851 and is based in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, in the heart of the Saumur appellation.

Worth knowing

The soil does a lot of the explaining here — the grapes come off clay-limestone tuffeau around Saumur, and the house builds its whole Saumur Brut range to express the freshness of the northern Loire climate and its chalky tuffeau terroirs. This rosé spends about twelve months on its lees after the traditional method.

Blend

  • Cabernet Franc 80%
  • Grolleau 20%

Tasting

Color: Bright, pale salmon-pink in the glass.
Nose: Wild strawberry, cherry, and raspberry come first, fresh and inviting — iris and violet behind them, spring flowers doing the lifting.
