Blackberry Mineral Spice Violet

A roast duck, cherries in the pan, nobody rushing out the door. Decant it a half hour and the flowers open up — dark, fresh, long.

THE STORY

About this wine

100% Gamay from Fleurie, off parcels farmed organically and biodynamically on ancient pink granite. Dark, brilliant garnet — peony and violet over fresh blackberry, silky fine-grained tannins, firm structure, a very long, fresh finish. Medium- to full-bodied at 13.5%, approachable with air and built for the cellar.

AOP Fleurie from the historic Château des Bachelards estate in Beaujolais, founded around 1100 by Benedictine monks of Cluny. The estate farms organically and biodynamically, with its Fleurie vineyards cultivated without chemical inputs and certified FR-BIO-15, Demeter and Biodyvin. The 2022 vintage was made under the Terre de Nature group after the ownership transition, with harvest timing chosen to preserve freshness in a hot, dry year.

Worth knowing

No carbonic maceration, no semi-carbonic, no thermovinification — an unusually terroir-focused approach for Beaujolais. The estate plants at roughly 10,000 vines per hectare, and the wine took 22 months in foudres and demi-muids.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Château des Bachelards Fleurie 'Comtesse de Vazeilles' 2022

Tasting

Color: Dark garnet, brilliant in the glass.
Nose: Elegant and finely spiced, peony and violet in the lead. Air draws out more depth and freshness.
Palate: Floral and complex, dense and relatively firm, built on pure fresh blackberry. Silky, fine-grained tannins carry it to a very long, fresh finish — a warm, dry season's concentration, kept airy and free of rusticity.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with roast poultry with herbs
A must try with charcuterie and cured meats
A must try with grilled or roasted red meats
