THE STORY

About this wine

A California traditional-method sparkling built on a 2020 base — fresh baked bread, lime zest, and white flowers out front, mineral and slate underneath, all of it riding a fine, persistent mousse.

Cruse Wine Co. is a small winery in Petaluma, California, focused on making uniquely Californian wines, often with bubbles. Tradition is a non-vintage sparkling wine built around the 2020 base.

Worth knowing

This is a non-vintage with a long memory. About 30% of the blend comes from a reserve perpetual cuvée that reaches back to 2015, layered over the 2020 base.

Blend

  • Chardonnay 70%
  • Pinot Noir 30%

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Cruse Wine Co. Tradition Sparkling

Tasting

Color: Golden in the glass with a faintly warm cast.
Nose: Fresh baked bread up front, green pepper and lime zest right behind, white flowers floating over the whole thing.
Palate: Mineral and slate run the length of it, with hints of banana candy and lemon-rind pith surfacing. The finish is long and floral, closing on wet stone.
