THE STORY

About this wine

Rich Tawny Port from Portugal's Douro that keeps its elegance: a non-vintage blend of oak-cask wines aged 15 to 40 years at Vila Nova de Gaia — dried apricot, honey, roasted nuts, vanilla and spice, the sweetness riding on freshness into a smooth, long finish.

Sandeman Porto Tawny 20 Years Old is a non-vintage DOC Porto from Portugal’s Douro region. It is made by the traditional Port method: hand-picked grapes are crushed and fermented with skin maceration, then fortified; the wines are transferred to Vila Nova de Gaia for ageing in oak casks. The final blend is composed of wines aged between 15 and 40 years.

Worth knowing

Twenty years old on the label, and no vintage to be found. It's an aged, non-vintage Tawny, its identity held together by a blend of cask-aged wines from 15 to 40 years old.

Blend

  • Tinta Barroca
  • Tinta Roriz
  • Tinto Cão
  • Touriga Franca
  • Touriga Nacional

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Sandeman 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Tasting

Color: Amber-gold with real tawny depth, running from bright reddish-amber to a paler medium tawny-amber.
Nose: Dried apricot leads, with more dried fruit, honey and roasted nuts behind it. Orange peel, vanilla, cinnamon and subtle spice come next, and apple pie, toffee apple, bergamot and balsam wood emerge underneath.
Palate: Rich and concentrated but elegant with it, the sweetness kept in balance by freshness and acidity.

Pairs Beautifully With

A must try with caramelised desserts such as tarte tatin and crème brûlée
A must try with strong, salty cheeses
A must try with rich savoury dishes such as foie gras, savoury pastry or seafood gratin
