Forest Floor Mineral Raspberry Red Cherry Spice

Not every Pommard plays the heavy, and this one doesn't. Let it breathe a good while, then pour it with a roast duck — bright, mineral, lifted.

THE STORY

About this wine

Dry, still red Burgundy from one young parcel — Pinot Noir on the clay-limestone slope of Pommard Les Perrières, directly beneath Clos des Epeneaux, made by the certified-organic Domaine Vincent Dancer. Medium-bodied, bright and mineral, with more lift than muscle.

Domaine Vincent Dancer was founded in 1996 and farms about 6 hectares in Burgundy. Théo Dancer took full control in 2021. The estate is certified organic, and the 2024 wines reportedly developed slowly in barrel; Théo described the vintage as low-alcohol, marked by acidity and balance. The 2024 release also marks a naming transition toward “Domaine Dancer,” although the wine is commonly listed under Vincent Dancer.

Worth knowing

The vines here went into the ground in 2012 — one parcel in Les Perrières, nearly a hectare, on the clay-limestone slope directly beneath Clos des Epeneaux. Vines that young carrying this much sense of place is unusual for Burgundy.

CHARACTERISTICS AND TASTING TIPS OF THE Vincent Dancer Pommard Les Perrieres 2024

Tasting

Color: Red in the glass.
Nose: The 2024 hasn't been tasted from bottle yet, so the read comes from the 2023 bottling of the same cuvée. Sweet red berry up front, red cherry and raspberry leading it, orange zest, rose petal and spice in the lift, then clove and forest floor underneath.
Palate: The palate here comes from that same 2023 bottling. Medium-bodied and silken, bright acidity holding the structure in check, the tannins staying elegant, and a finish that lingers on a savory, mineral note.
